Ustad Rafiuddin Sabri - Performing live with Ustad Shahid Parvez in Latvia

Rafiuddin Sabri was born in Delhi. Son of Ustad Saghir Ahmed Sabri, a well known vocalist and Grandson of Ustad Ghulam Abbas Khan.

Rafiuddin Sabri had his initial training of Tabla from Late Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan Saheb and later continued under his uncle Late Ustad Nazir Ahmed Khan Saheb.

 

Achievements & Awards:

-First prize in Tabla in All India Radio competition in 26th July, 1984. (Delhi)
 

-‘A’ Grade from All India Radio in 19th July, 1986. (Delhi)

 

-Swar Dharohar Samman in 19th November, 2003. (Delhi)

 

-BLOF Award for Umoja project recorded (Netherlands )on 9th June, 2006.

 

-He has also been felicitated with the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award on 19th Novemeber 2006 (Delhi) for his outstanding achievements in Tabla performances Worldwide.

 

-Honoured with the Ustad Mehboob Khan Mirajkar award in 25th December-2006 .(Pune)

 

-Awarded with a ‘Top’ Grade in Tabla from All India Radio, 4th October.,2007 (Delhi)

 

-Awarded with ‘BHAVISHYA JYOTI AWARD’ by Prastaar Music Society on 29th December, 2007 (Delhi)

 

Rafiuddin Sabri is one of the Leading Tabla Players of India, who has spread the magic of his Tabla throughout USA, UAE, Europe and Asia. His inimitable style and improvisation has earned him a great amount of recognition in the music circle and has also performed in various CD’s and Cassettes released Worldwide.

 

His grandfather Late Ustad Abbo Khan was a highly acclaimed accompanist of his time. Whichever artist he accompanied was so impressed with his performance that they always insisted him to accompany them in all their performances.

 

(His Great Grand Father Ustad Ghulam Nabi Khan and Ustad Karam Baksh Khan and the latter’s son Dada Azim Baksh Khan were court musicians of Siyaji Maharaj Gayekwad, Maharaja of Baroda. They were widely acclaimed exponents of Tabla as well as Pakhawaj. His another uncle Late Ustad Nasir Ahmed Baba was a great Harmonium player of India.)

 

Rafiuddin Sabri has and is currently accompanying many famous artists of the World like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt.Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Dr.N.Rajam, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Sultan Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Ustad Nishat Khan, Pt.V.G.Jog, Pt.Debu Chowdhary, Pt.Budhadev Dasgupta, Pt.Bhajan Sopori, Ghulam Ali, Hariharan, Remo Fernandes, David Lowe, Famous Dutch Pop BLOF Band, Fernando Lamarinhas, Dhroe Nankoe, Dr.N.Ramani, Pt.Ravi Kiran, Loy Mendonsa, A.R.Rahman, , Farida Khanum, Abida Parveen, Jan Kuiper and Daler Mehndi.

 

Rafiuddin Sabri, a versatile Tabla player who has made an impact over the past two decades, is considered one of the earliest in Delhi to take to World music on a regular basis.

He has been engaged in experimenting towards achieving a synthesis of Indian and Western Music which can be heard in some his famous titles like ‘The World this Week in 1987’ , India Quiz, Wild Collections, A Few Rupees More, Tonight, Star News, A Business of India, NDTV India, NDTV Profit and NDTV 24x7, NDTV Good times and NDTV Metro Nation etc.

He has performed in various live concerts in India and overseas by renowned Music Societies which has earned him a great amount of recognition and respect and has more than 40 disciples learning the great art from him in Delhi.
